Canberra Theatre Centre - Canberra ACT

The ACT Government has recently committed $28 million to revitalise the Canberra Theatre Centre. This significant upgrade is expected to attract internationally acclaimed musicals, circus performances, ballets, and operas. The overarching vision is to establish a world-class theatre facility that aligns with the ACT Government’s goal of positioning Canberra as the arts capital of Australia.

Project Design Brief

As part of the recent refurbishment, all pedestrian pavements in the theatre precinct were upgraded, requiring new access points for underground services. With a variety of pavement finishes and depths, designers aimed to ensure access covers were discreet and compatible with the surrounding surfaces, while maintaining functionality for maintenance.

ACO's Solution

  • 4-part multi-part Rhinocast decorative edge access cover.
  • ACO Technical Services provided the structural engineer with a detailed rebate and beam drawing for the 4-part access cover to be incorporated into the pavement over the cable pit.

Benefits

  • Rhinocast infill covers provide a 40mm high stainless steel decorative edge allowing the cover to be filled with the adjacent pavers. This provides a discreet and uniform finish.
  • Class B covers are suitable for footpaths and residential properties.
  • Removable beam allows clear access to the pit below for maintenance.
