Cable pits for NBN
NBN Co has developed and operates Australia’s wholesale broadband access network.
An NBN pit forms a critical access point within the telecommunications network, providing protection and connection for fibre and copper infrastructure. ACO manufactures moulded plastic pit systems that are engineered to align with NBN pits requirements and the NBN-TE-CTO-194 specification. Each cable pit is designed to support asset protection, controlled access and long-term structural performance in different site conditions.

Pits
Performance and compliance in Australian conditions
ACO pit systems are manufactured using robust polyethylene plastic pits to withstand ground movement, traffic loading and environmental exposure common across Australian projects. Dimensional accuracy supports efficient NBN pit and pipe installation and ensures compatibility with standard conduit layouts. Clear internal working space assists contractors during NBN pit installation while maintaining compliance with minimum internal and nominal external dimensions.
Integrated NBN pit and pipe applications
For projects involving integrated NBN pit and pipe configurations, ACO provides coordinated solutions that support trenching, conduit entry and secure termination points. NBN pit and pipe installation considerations, such as bedding, backfill and load class selection, are addressed through documented technical guidance to assist civil contractors and project managers.

Lids
ACO has a range of concrete lids to meet NBN-TE-CTO-194 detailed below.
- Pit lids must weigh not more than 38 kg each with the weight of the lid clearly labelled on the lid
- Pit lids must have a pit lid lifting tool hole at each end of the lid capable of being used with an industry accepted lifting tool
- The pit lids shall be embossed with the descriptor of ‘NBN’.
- Pit lid lifting holes must be designed to prevent the insertion of materials including needle sharps.
- Pit lids must be tested by a certified laboratory. A certificate of compliance must be produced on request
