These pits allow technicians to safely install, joint, inspect, and maintain underground power cables without needing to excavate large sections of the network. Typically located in footpaths, road verges, or easements, cable pits also facilitate changes in cable direction and provide space for cable connections and equipment. By enabling easier access and maintenance, cable pits help Ausgrid maintain the reliability, safety, and efficiency of its underground electricity infrastructure.
